The Power of Biochar in Action

Helping Today. Helping Tommorow

Our Carbon Villages are built around the dedication and hard work of smallholder farmers who are transforming the way agriculture impacts the planet. Each village represents a hub of innovation — where farming meets climate action and sustainability becomes a way of life.

The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something

Farmer Killian

31.5 tonnes of biochar produced and applied

Over the past few harvests, Farmer Killian has transformed his crop residues into 31.5 tonnes of biochar, enriching his soil with organic carbon and reducing his reliance on chemical fertilizers.

Income from carbon credits

With guidance from our local verification and training team, he received income from the sale of  certified carbon removal credits.

67.8 tonnes of CO₂eq sequestered

By incorporating biochar into his maize and cassava fields, Killian helped store 67.8 tonnes of CO₂eq in the soil — contributing to climate change mitigation and long-term soil health.

Investing in productivity

The additional income enabled Killian to purchase improved seeds and farming tools, thereby expanding his operations sustainably while maintaining soil moisture naturally through the application of biochar.

A Farmer from Cameroon

Farmer Emmanuel

34.2 tonnes of biochar produced and used

Over recent years, Farmer Emmanuel turned his crop residues into 34.2 tonnes of biochar, which he applied to his mixed cropping system to improve soil texture and increase productivity.

Income from carbon credits

With assistance from the local verification team, Emmanuel earned income from the sale of carbon credits generated through his biochar activities.

72.1 tonnes of CO₂eq sequestered

His commitment to biochar farming helped lock away 72.1 tonnes of CO₂eq in the soil — promoting sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.

Building a better livelihood

The extra income enabled him to purchase high-quality seeds and upgrade his post-harvest storage facilities, thereby ensuring greater food security for his household.

Farmer From Ghaana

Farmer Karoline

27.9 tonnes of biochar applied

Over the past few growing seasons, Farmer Karoline converted her agricultural waste into 27.9 tonnes of biochar, which she applied to her vegetable and maize plots to improve yields and reduce fertilizer dependency.

Income from carbon credits

Supported by our verification team, she earned income from the sale of her verified carbon credits.

59.4 tonnes of CO₂eq stored in the soil

Through her biochar practices, Karoline effectively sequestered 59.4 tonnes of CO₂eq, helping to cool the climate while restoring soil fertility and enhancing water retention.

Empowering education

The earnings helped Karoline pay her children’s school fees and invest in their continued education.

Farmer from Ghana

Farmer Linda

29.7 tonnes of biochar applied

Farmer Linda produced and applied 29.7 tonnes of biochar from her crop residues, revitalizing degraded soils and naturally boosting her crop yields.

Income from carbon credits

With the help of our training and verification team, Linda earned income from the sale of verified carbon removal credits.

63.2 tonnes of CO₂eq sequestered

Her biochar efforts resulted in the long-term storage of 63.2 tonnes of CO₂eq, thereby enhancing soil structure, water retention, and overall ecosystem health.

Strengthening household resilience

With the earnings, Linda supported her children’s education, improved her home, and strengthened her family’s overall well-being.
